Is Solana (SOL) halal?
Solana is a high-throughput proof-of-stake Layer 1 launched in March 2020. It targets sub-second finality and very low fees, making it a hub for consumer dApps and memecoins. SOL has been included on the Securities Commission Malaysia's tradeable Shariah-permissible list at various points. Like Ethereum, the underlying asset is platform-neutral; we screen SOL itself, not the dApps built on it.

Verdict
Per AAOIFI-aligned framework, our screening shows: Per AAOIFI-aligned framework, spot SOL passes our gates. Subscribers should avoid speculative meme tokens on the chain; the bot does not buy unscreened tokens.
Our framework uses an AAOIFI-aligned methodology, with Saudi Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta and Al Rajhi Bank Shariah Board guidance.
Gate-by-gate analysis
Riba (interest)
PassSpot SOL has no embedded interest. Native staking yield (~6-7% APR) is not used by our bot — we hold spot only.
Gharar (uncertainty)
PassAsset specifications, supply schedule, and on-chain settlement are publicly verifiable. Spot ownership transfers cleanly with no embedded contingent payoffs. SOL emission schedule is protocol-defined.
Maysir (gambling)
PassSpot purchase is direct ownership of a defined asset, not a wager. Our bot never places leverage, futures, perpetuals, options, or margin trades — eliminating the maysir vector at execution.
Haram-sector exposure
PassSolana hosts memecoins and consumer apps; the base SOL asset is platform-neutral. Protocol-level revenue is transaction fees, not gambling rake.
Liquidity
PassSOL clears all tier liquidity gates.
Final verdict
Per AAOIFI-aligned framework, spot SOL passes our gates. Subscribers should avoid speculative meme tokens on the chain; the bot does not buy unscreened tokens.
Caveats and notes
- Solana hosts a heavy memecoin ecosystem; the bot does not trade unscreened memecoins.
- Network has had multi-hour outages historically; less of a Shariah issue than an operational one.
- Staking yield is not used by our bot — spot only.
FAQs about Solana
›Is Solana halal?
Per AAOIFI-aligned framework, spot SOL passes our gates. SC Malaysia has included SOL on its tradeable Shariah list at multiple review cycles.
›Is staking SOL halal?
Open scholarly debate. We hold spot only — never staking — to keep the verdict unambiguous.
›Are Solana memecoins halal?
Most fail our maysir or sector gates. Each token would need its own screening; the bot does not trade unscreened tokens.
›Which tier trades SOL?
All three. SOL clears liquidity thresholds.
›Is Solana DeFi halal?
Most DeFi protocols on Solana are not halal — they involve interest-bearing lending or excessive gharar. Holding SOL is different from using every dApp.
