Is Stellar (XLM) halal?
Stellar is a payments-focused Layer 1 built for cross-border remittances and asset issuance. The Stellar Development Foundation has worked with multiple regional banks and remittance providers, including in OIC countries. Stellar is widely viewed favorably in halal finance circles for its non-PoW, non-PoS-yield consensus and its remittance focus — both align well with mainstream AAOIFI principles.

Gate-by-gate analysis
Riba (interest)
PassSpot XLM has no embedded interest. Stellar Consensus Protocol does not produce a yield to spot holders. The annual inflation mechanism was disabled by validator vote in 2019.
Gharar (uncertainty)
PassAsset specifications, supply schedule, and on-chain settlement are publicly verifiable. Spot ownership transfers cleanly with no embedded contingent payoffs.
Maysir (gambling)
PassSpot purchase is direct ownership of a defined asset, not a wager. Our bot never places leverage, futures, perpetuals, options, or margin trades — eliminating the maysir vector at execution.
Haram-sector exposure
PassStellar's primary use is remittance and asset issuance — productive halal economic activity. Some asset issuers on Stellar may not be halal individually; base XLM is neutral.
Liquidity
PassXLM clears all tier gates.
Final verdict
Per AAOIFI-aligned framework, spot XLM passes our gates cleanly. Among the cleanest verdicts in our universe.
Caveats and notes
